The Sepoy Mutiny was a violent and very bloody uprising against British rule in India in 1857. It is also known by other names: the Indian Mutiny, the Indian Rebellion of 1857, or the Indian Revolt of 1857. The Sepoy included people that were negatively impacted by the colonization of India by the British. Their efforts were to protect their religion and social customs protect and liberate the poor and helpless Indians. They believed the British goal was to transform India into their customs and traditions such as Christianity. The Sepoy Mutiny did not get rid of the British but they helped form a voice for their people.
